Skill Award in Journalism

This skill award prepares students for entry-level careers in journalism. The skill award equips students with current skills in multimedia newsgathering and dissemination that are directly applicable to employment. After completing the program, students will have opportunities to work for newspapers, broadcast (radio and television) newsrooms, online news publishers and other multimedia news outlets as either full-time or freelance journalists.

Skill Award Level Student Learning Outcomes

Students completing the Journalism Skill Award will:

  1. Understand and exercise journalistic rights and responsibilities.
  2. Understand the media, information, and their relation to society.
  3. Gain and display skills to gather and disseminate news in multiple formats, including text, photos, audio, video and graphics.
